A Side Quest
I (Dave) am about to embark on an adventure. Lynda and I aren't leaving Puerto Rico (we still love it here, and have so many plans). But...
We have friends who are sailing their catamaran from the Bahamas back to their home turf in Spain. I'll be joining them as crew in Nassau next week. They will spend a bit of time helping me to learn their boat thoroughly as we make our way to the launch point in the Bahamas (possibly from Marsh Harbor).
From the Bahamas, we will sail northeast to Bermuda, where we will refuel, reprovision, and make any repairs that are necessary. The weather has been...crazy. The normal easterly trade winds have not yet started, so it may be necessary for us to sail east, or south east, or possibly north, in order to get to Bermuda. We will know more next week.
From Bermuda, we will sail east to the Azores. This will be the longest leg of the journey. In the Azores, we will again refuel, reprovision, and make any necessary repairs.
Assuming we make good time to the Azores, I will continue with them on to Tangier, through the Strait of Gibraltar, and on to Barcelona.
We hope that the entire trip will take no more than 6 weeks. Of course, as always, weather is the significant factor.
Unfortunately, they won't be able to run Starlink the entire time (they don't have nearly as many solar panels as we did on our boat), so my connection to the outside world will largely be restricted to simple text messages with Lynda via our Garmin Inreach satellite communicator.
Once we make landfall, I should be able to share pictures, videos, and text from various parts of the passage. I anticipate uploading at least one new blog post before we depart the Bahamas.
This experience is definitely a bucket list item for me, so I'm exited to be able to make it happen!
