Dominica Indian River (pt 2)

Dominica Indian River (pt 2)

I'm feeling rested and inspired this morning, so I managed to get the rest of the pictures from our Indian River tour processed! This set focuses on scenery and flora.

These lovely flowers were blooming at the water's edge.

I expected to see turtles basking in the sun on this log:

The morning light painted some lovely images on the water:

Our guide said that the mangroves grow 80 feet (24 meters) high:

These were some of the palm trees that managed to survive hurricane Maria:

There were epiphytes growing in lots of trees:

Some mangroves had impressive root systems:

I liked the way light and shadow split the buttresses of this mangrove:

More flowers showing themselves here and there:

The moon gave us a really good view as we came around one bend in the river:

Our guide said that the whole river was covered in a canopy before Maria, making a tunnel all the way up the river, kind of like this:

Something was falling from the mangroves into the water, causing splashing and bubbles to appear:

Our guide said that this was where a mangrove and a mango tree were growing in the same spot; Maria took them both down:

Interesting vines growing up and down from this tree:

Substantial trunks on these mangroves:

Frequently we would see patches of reds and purples mixed in with the green and brown:

Some of these trees feel really old:

Flowers from the Bush Bar stop:

I liked how the buttresses of this tree grew like fingers:
