Farewell Dominica, hello Martinique!

Farewell Dominica, hello Martinique!
The north side of Martinique as we arrived

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Dominica! It's hard to believe that we were only there 2 weeks. We have so many great memories with our friends on SV Kaimana and SV Seascape! And I still have so many pictures and videos to edit and blog posts to write about Dominica...but in real time, we have moved on.

On Sunday, we motor sailed from Portsmouth to the southern side of Dominica, just past Roseau, splitting our journey across 2 days.

Pointe Michel is a pretty town south of Roseau

We spent the afternoon aboard Seascape playing Mexican Train Dominos, a surprisingly addictive game that we play every chance we get.

Then the wind and current did really strange things, causing our boat to get really close to Seascape. Or maybe it caused them to get close to us. Either way, we were too close for comfort!

Well hello neighbor!

We got even closer than this picture, so out of an abundance of caution, we raised anchor and moved a bit to ensure that we wouldn't swing into each other in the dark.

The wind and current continued to do crazy things all night, so we were glad we moved.

That's our anchor, adjacent to the boat, barely visible in the morning light

We got an early-ish start and made our way south. The winds were light and variable right off, but once we cleared the island we were greeted with brisk winds with an apparent wind angle of 50-60 degrees. Perfect for sailing! We were doing 7-8 knots for quite a while. And the sea state wasn't nearly as bad as forecasted!

Then we reached Martinique.

And the wind died. So we spent the last hour motoring in to the anchorage.

It didn't take us long to head in to town to check in to the country, make dinner reservations for tomorrow, and do some grocery shopping. Thanks to Shane and Tanya on Seascape for the dinghy ride there and back!

Now we are back at the boat, relaxing, looking at the volcanic peak in front of us, and starting to plan our next adventure with friends.

This volcano is really beckoning us to go visit it...
