The end of an era

The end of an era
Our last sunrise as boat owners

This morning, at approximately 10:46am Atlantic Standard Time (9:46am EST), near Salinas, Puerto Rico, Away To Me is officially sold.

The path to get here was wild and filled with obstacles. Closing had to be extended, and it was alarmingly close to not closing in time. We were told it would close last Friday, no problem. Then Tuesday, for sure. Wednesday? How could it not finish on Wednesday? By Wednesday night, we were hearing about how these things had never happened all at once in the same deal.

Thankfully, Thursday really was the day. The last day in the extended contract.

There was a scenario where we would still be in Grenada. Thankfully, that didn't happen! (I think I wrote a blog post about leaving Grenada, didn't I? It ended up being a fast sail, averaging around 8 knots, and arriving 6 hours early.)

To be clear, the delays weren't the fault of the buyers, or the brokers (our broker has been amazing throughout the process), or us. This story isn't entirely ours to tell, and I don't want to throw anyone else under the bus, so I'll hold back the gory details.

But, it's done. We are now former boat owners. Instead of relaxing and celebrating, we have the task of getting all of our stuff packed up and moved off of the boat. It's going to continue to be a busy time for us. Hopefully we will at least get a good night's sleep tonight.
